Privacy

Stowpoke is a tool for knowing where your things are. This page says what it keeps and why. No ads, no advertising trackers, no selling or sharing of your data.

On this phone

If you use Stowpoke without an account, your places, items and tags stay on your phone. Nothing is sent to us.

With the Stowpoke service

If you choose to sync, we keep what is needed to run it:

  • Your sign-in. The identifier Apple gives us for you, the name you choose to show, and, only if you share it, an email address (often Apple's private relay). We use that address only for notices about your account and your data, such as a warning before an inventory is deleted, never for marketing. We never see your Apple password.
  • Your inventories. The places, items, notes, tags and the record of who moved what, as you enter them. We do not read them for any purpose other than showing them to the people in that inventory.
  • Your subscription. Which plan you have and when it ends, as the App Store reports it, tied to your Stowpoke account. Apple handles payment; we never see card details.
  • Your devices. A name for each linked phone, browser or reader, when it was last used, and a sign-in token (stored only as a hash).

Everyone in a shared inventory can see everything in it, including who put things where, and the names of the others in it. When someone asks to join, the owner (or whoever invited them) sees their name and when they started using Stowpoke.

Photos

Photos you add to items and places stay on the iPhone that took them. They are not sent to us and are not part of exports.

How long we keep it

  • While it is paid for, an inventory is kept as long as its owner's subscription continues. Joining someone else's inventory is free and does not change this.
  • When a subscription ends (cancelled, expired or refunded), its inventories stay readable and can be exported. After 20 days they move to encrypted storage, still readable and exportable. After 60 days they are deleted, along with the key that encrypted them. Subscribing again within 60 days, with the same account, brings them back as they were.
  • An inventory that was never paid for is deleted 60 days after it was made.
  • When you delete your account, your sign-in, devices, subscription record and inventories only you are in are deleted at once. In inventories shared with others, the inventory stays with them and your name in its history becomes "Former member". Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription: cancel it in your Apple Account's subscriptions.
  • Backups of the service roll over within 30 days, so deleted data leaves them by then.

Your own server

If you connect to a server you run, your data goes to that server and not to us.

Your data is yours

  • Export everything you need to recreate your setup, any time, from Settings in the app or on the web. It is never withheld, including after a subscription ends.
  • Delete your account in Settings, in the app or on the web, at any time (see above for what that removes).

Logs and analytics

We keep short-lived operational logs to keep the service running. They do not include the contents of your inventory. We do not run behavioural analytics.
